National Telecommunications Week!
Thursday, April 15, 2010

Each year during the second week of April, the nation celebrates National Public Safety Telecommunications week. The week is dedicated to those who serve in the public safety arena who answer the call in times of emergencies or simply to answer questions when a community member is in need. When someone dials “911” it is the dispatcher who answers the call and directs an emergency response. Our dispatchers provide around the clock coverage to answer the call when emergency assistance is needed. This job is very difficult and stressful and it requires a special person with the skill set to not only assist members of the community with minor problems but also in times of danger. Whether someone is injured in a traffic collision or the victim of a violent crime, the dispatcher is the first person a member of the community speaks with when confronted with an emergency.
Please join all of us at the police department in celebrating the members of our dispatch team during this special week!
