Summertime has landed and the outside temperature is beginning to rise. The importance of personal hydration cannot be underestimated throughout the year, but especially during the hot season of summer in southern California. Please remember to consume adequate amounts of water and check with your doctor for further information.

It is also important to check on the health of elderly family members, friends, and neighbors as heat related illnesses can cause medical emergencies.

Placentia Officers Travel to Oakland for Funeral Services

Members of the Placentia Police Department made the journey to the Oakland area on Thursday, March 27, 2009 to pay their respects to the fallen Oakland Police officers who were killed in the line of duty. More than 18,000 people attended the memorial service on Friday to honor Sergeant Mark Dunakin, Sergeant Ervin Romans, Sergeant Daniel Sakai, and Officer John Hege who were killed after after a string of events which began with encountering a parolee during a traffic stop. Officers from all over the world were reported as being in attendance for the services to pay their respects to the fallen officers and their families. Victim's Rights March & Remembrance Rally

On Monday, April 27, 2009 join the Orange County District Attorney’s Office in conjunction with the National Victim’s Rights Week and attend the Orange County Victims’ Rights March and Remembrance Rally. The program begins at 9:30 A.M. at the Orange County District Attorney’s Office located at 401 Civic Center Drive, Santa Ana, California. New RV Parking Permit Regulations

In January 2009, the City Council adopted Ordinance No. 0-2008-15 which requires a temporary parking permit for anyone who wishes to park their RV on the public street between the hours of 2am and 6am. These temporary parking permits are free of charge and can be obtained online or at the front counter of the police department. More...

2008 Annual Awards & Promotions Ceremony Held

On January 28, 2009, the Placentia Police Department held the 2008 Annual Awards & Promotions Ceremony to honor members of the police department for their achievements. Chief James Anderson presided over the ceremony where members of the police department, their friends and family as well as local dignitaries celebrated the events of 2008. Numerous awards and citations were bestowed but the most commendable was the Life Saving Award given to Detective Zachary Palumbo and Officer Jonathon Ainley for their efforts in reviving a baby which had stopped breathing. Placentia Police Captain Receives Citizen of the Year Award

Placentia Police Department Captain Ward Smith along with Placentia Historical Committee member Jeanette Gardner received the award for the Citizen of the Year for 2008. Captain Smith currently serves as the Department’s Administrative and Field Services Division Commander. Captain Smith is a long time resident of the city of Placentia and has served the Placentia community and the police department for nearly three decades. Captain Smith received his award nomination from the Rotary Club and on January 22, 2009 the award was bestowed upon him. Captain Smith who is a strong proponent of public service also serves as a board member for the Boys and Girls Club.
