Did You Know
If you call 911 you will be asked to give your address. This might sound a little odd because many people have heard that 911 opeartors have a database of almost every person calling, which includes address. The 911 operator or police dispatch operator is required to ask for your address. The reason is simple. No database is completely accurate. When they send out an officer, they want to make sure the address is correct. Please be ready to give that information.

December Crime View Meeting Impressions
The December Crime View meeting covered the prior month's, November, reported crimes. Each meeting, we attend, we come away some times with a slightly different impression. Residential burglaries took center stage in November. The total number for November was 11 residential burglaries. This is slightly above average. What impressed us was the number of entry points labeled "garage". We counted at least 6 incidents, just over half of the total reports, where the entry point was into a garage. Of those, 6 were "unsecured" garages.
The Placentia police can and will knock on your door in the middle of the night to tell you your garage is open if they view this as they drive by. Please secure your garage by closing and locking.
Placentia Crime Tips
(As of the December Crime View meeting, this tip has NOT changed.)
GPS units left displayed on the dash or windshield of have been common targets of car burglary as well as purses and laptops being left on the seat. If any item is in view from the car windows, the thief will smash the window, grab the items and flee. Please lock all car doors and put valuables locked in glove compartment and trunk.
Lock all home doors and windows when away from home. Also, close and lock all garage doors whenever possible. Side gates should also be locked.

Collision Factors

In the graphic above, you can see a pie chart indicating the amounts for each vehicle collision factor. We chose October because this is the most recent example we have. The pie chart shapes do change a little each month but the above graphic is pretty typical. To better understand the graphic, here is a more descriptive key with collision totals for October:
Speed (9): Going over the speed limit is simply dangerous. Please, when you drive, look for speed limit signs and abide that requirement. The above chart shows this to be the most significant collision factor!
DUI (2): Driving under the influence, impairs ability to drive safely.
Red Light (1): Typically, this refers to running a red light. Please allow plenty of time to get to your destination and never run a red light.
Turning (4): Making a vehicle turn requires looking each way a couple of times and some people just turn without looking.
FTY (4): Fail to yield means the driver should have yielded to another driver. Please be cautious at all times.
Unk (7): Unknown reason for the collision.
Other (14): Any collision that does not fit the above categories.
