Crime View For September  (under construction)

Synopsis of briefing held October 28, 2009 covering the prior month, September, crime activity.

Calls for service in the month of September total was 1204, 154 fewer calls than last month. The day shift had 654 calls while the night shift had 550.

Traffic Report

Traffic Collisions: 33.  This number is one more than last month.   At this time last year the total reports was 311.  This year the total is 284.

Non-Injury Collisons


Traffic Fatalities: 0


Personal Injury Collisions:15.  Last month this number was 13 so we experienced an increase of 2.  Last year this total was 112.  This year the total is 89, a definite improvement.  Note the map pin cluster on the west side of the city.

Property Damage Collisions: 18.  This number is one less than last month and the total for this categoy is practically the same as last year.


Motorist Passenger Injuries: 11


Pedestrian Injuries: 4


Bicyclist Injuries: 0.  This year we total one less than last year.


Hit and Run Collisions: 12.  This number has jumped up by 7 from last month.  Also this year we have seen an increase by 3 from last year when compairing yearly totals up to and including August.


Driving Under the Influence Collisions: 2. Both collisions were single vehicle.  Last year this number totaled 28 by August and this year the number is only 12 by August.

 

DUI-Collisons


Driving Under the Influence Arrests: 14.  This number of 14 for September is 3 more than August.  When compairing this year with last year we see a 8 percent decrese.  In the map image below, notice the horizontal line cluster of arrests along Yorba Linda Blvd.  Also, notice that the arrests took place on major roadways.

Have Been Drinking Collisions: 0.  This category has dropped by 78 percent from last year.


Hazardous Cites Issued: 415.  In August this number was 372.  This increase came out of the police efforts to kick it up, put more effort.


Parking Cites Issued: 1287.  This statistical number relates directly to the activity of the street sweeper.  The city has two sweepers but one frequently goes out of service. 


30 Day impounds: 84. 


Note: The primary factors for vehicular collisions was in order of importance, speeding and fail to yield.

Note: Traffic collisons took place most often Mondays followed by Thursday.

Note: DV means Domestic Violence.

The majorityh of assaults took place Thursday through Saturday between 8 pm and midnight.  Eleven of the assaults were domestic violence related. One of the assaults was gang related.

Property Crimes


Residential Burglary: 9.  This number of 9 for September has dipped by 8 from August.  For the year the running total is four percent higher than last year.  No pattern for this crime is seen.

Commercial Burglary: 5.  This number, 5, for Septermber is 4 less than August.  For the year, we see this category of crime is down by thirty one percent compaired to last year.  Commercial burglaries for the month occurred most frequently on Wednesday between midnight and 4 am.


Vehicle Burglary:
9.  The number of 9 is a drop of 7 from August which had a number of 16.  The bad news is we are experiencing a thirty one percent increase for this year (203) when compaired to last year (155).  The majority of vehicle burglaries took place on Tuesday between midnight and 8 pm.  A new development is a cluster near Golden Middle School.

Grand Theft: 11.  This number is 2 less than last month.  This year, the totals are up by two percent.  Grand thefts for the month of September occurred most frequently on Tuesday between noon and 8 pm.

Petty Theft:
22.  This number is up by two compaired to last month.  The running total for this crime is thirteen percent higher than last year.  Petty thefts occurred most frequently on Wednesday from noon to 4 pm.

Vehicle Theft:
2.  This number dropped by three from last month.  This crime total so far is twenty three percent lower than last year.  Vehicle thefts occurred on Monday and Saturday between 4 am and noon.  Note the cluster running along a near vertical line on or paralleling Bradford Ave on the west side of the city.

 

Graffiti: 6.  We have seen a drop from 15 in August to 6 for September.  The year's total is also down when compaired to last year by 24.
