Traffic Bureau Statistics
- Traffic Collisions (39)
Most injuries appear to happen on major streets. The reasons for collisions in order of importance is speed, fail to yield and turning. - Traffic Fatalities (0)
- Motorist Passenger Injuries (10)
- Pedestrian Injuries (1)
- Bicyclist Injuries (0)
- Hit and Run Collisions (4)
April shows a drop to 4 collisions from last month having 12. - Hazardous Cites Issued (510)
- Parking Cites Issued (970)
This figure is dependent upon the number of street sweepers working. - Driving Under Influence (DUI) Collisions (4)*
The DUI incidents doubled from 2 in March to 4 in April but this is still 40 percent lower when compared to last year. The map shows the DUI collisions taking place on Yorba Linda Blvd. and Orangethorpe Ave.
- HBD Collisions (1)*
- Driving Under Influence (DUI) Arrests (16)
The DUI arrests are spread out more on the city map than the DUI collisions. Most of these incidents did occur on east west major thoroughfares but not all. - 30 Day Impounds Of Vehicles (81)
“Drivers who do not have valid licenses are involved in 20 percent of fatal crashes...” (http://www.smartmotorist.com/traffic-and-safety-guideline/deadly-drivers-one-fatal-crash-in-five-involves-an-unlicensed-driver.html). For this reason, the Placentia City Police officers using the impound yard seems to be helping in diminishing the statistical numbers for traffic collisions by keeping vehicles, not properly licensed, off the road.
Crime Trends
- Homicide (0)
- Rape (1)
- Robbery (1)
- Aggravated Assault (2)
- Non-Aggravated Assault (16)
Ten of the assaults for the month were domestic violence (DV) related and one was gang related. Most of the assaults took place on Fridays between 8pm and midnight.
Property Crimes
- Residential Burglary (8)
Monday and Wednesday had the most incidents. The favorite time for this activity was 8pm and 8am. Entry into homes with occupants inside the home has been noted. Entry is typically through unlocked doors and windows. Entry is also taking place using back yards to gain access through sliding glass doors.
Home owner check list: - Lock all doors.
- Lock all windows.
- Turn a light on, all night, covering the back yard and front yard.
- If you have an alarm system, consider using “chime” and/or “stay” features on your keypad but understand how they can help you and how these work before you use them.
- Commercial Burglary (4)
Commercial burglaries for the month of April took place on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday during evening and early morning hours. Two of these were, grab and dash, beer runs. - Vehicle Burglary (35)
It seems each month we see the same pattern of vehicle window smash. Keep all valuables hidden and lock your vehicle. The most incidents for this crime was Monday and Thursday between 4pm and midnight. The crime map shows a lot of pins in the Atwood area and the west part of the city, west of Valencia, north and south. - Grand Theft (6)
Grand thefts for the month of April occurred on Sunday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday between 4pm and 4am. The map pins show no pattern. - Petty Theft (9)
Huge reduction from March which had 20. Petty thefts occured most frequently on Thursday between 8am and 8pm. Schools seem to be a big problem for this type of crime. Electronic gadgets seem to be the most stolen item. - Vehicle Theft (10)
March had 5 reports while April went up to 10. For this year, the percent is still down -22% when compared to last year. Vehicle thefts for the month of April took place most frequently on weekdays between noon and 4pm. The map pattern shows a significant cluster of pins in the city space inside the boundaries of the 91 freeway, 57 freeway, Placentia Ave and Orangethorpe A.
Residential burglaries took place within one block of a major thoroughfare. This just might be a clever method for the burglar to fleet the crime site more quickly and not get delayed or trapped in complex housing track road ways.
